Winning Internet Poker

Friday, June 27th, 2008

When people speak of Internet poker, there is one name that cuts above the rest of the poker variants — the Texas Hold’em poker game. This variant of poker is considered to be the most popular type being played in the online casinos. The same popularity also extends to television and the World Tour of Poker.

Put simply, Texas Hold’em involves fours rounds of betting: the first after the hands of two cards have been dealt; the second after a “flop” of three cards has been dealt on the table; the third and fourth after “turn” and “river” cards have been dealt on the table. The object is to get the best standard poker hand of five cards, using any of the five table cards or the two cards in hand.

While all poker game variants involve a lot of psychological play - and Texas Hold’em is certainly not an exception - it is possible to play winning poker with a purely mathematical strategy. The sheer amount of players online ensures that you can cash in on the bad players: the gamblers.

Playing winning Internet poker involves getting rid of the gambler’s instinct and concentrating on the game. While it involves mathematics, the concepts are easy enough for anyone to understand. Even simply picking the starting hands according to a set table gives one a great edge against poor players.

There are many different styles of play: loose or tight, based on how many hands one is willing to play; aggressive or passive, based on how easily one bets or folds. Almost any combination can win. The style of play best suited for winning depends on the person. However, it is usually best to start with a tight-aggressive strategy, especially before one grasps the finer points of Hold’em.

Playing positions matter a lot in Hold’em. The dealer plays last after the first round and is in the worst position. The blinds are early positions as is the next one, which is called “under the gun”. Which positions are middle and which late depends on the number of players.

Hands are ofted written in shorthand like K7 for king and seven off-suit and A9s for ace-nine suited. A basic guide to starting hands that suits this style of play is the following: play AA, KK, AKs and QQ from any position; play AQs, JJ, AK, TT and AJs from mid to late position; and play mid pairs and high ace-suits from dealer position, when you get the chance.

Hold’em becomes much more complicated at later stages and higher levels of play, but even this amount of information gives an edge about some players. To play winning Internet poker one has to stop gambling and start playing strategy. Play solid strategy and rest assured: at the end of the day, the best player will win.

It is important to find information on different online poker rooms, because they have different levels of opposition. Depending on whether your goal is simply to win pennies or to become a better player, you should choose a completely different poker room to play in. Poker room reviews help by giving you that information.

The Las Vegas of Online Gambling

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Las Vegas is almost a synonym for gambling in the real world, having also been called the gambling capital. When one moves to gamble online, one has to wonder where the Las Vegas of the online world of gambling is.

Because of the vastness of the world wide web, the freedom to log on from anywhere in the world and the healthy amount of competition online, there is no real capital of web based gambling. However, there are some web sites that should be noticed, ones that draw the players with a wide range of services and a promise of great riches.

The hubs of online poker are perhaps the best knows gambling portals of the net. With the surging popularity of Texas Hold’em and some other poker variants, online poker has an increasingly large share in the online gambling industry.

The poker portals of note are sites such as Party Poker, which has one of the largest groups of players, and Poker Stars, which is considered by many to be the most reliable and respected poker room. Nevertheless, hundreds, if not thousands of poker rooms exist today. The massive growth of Internet poker is a great example of how the net changes gambling.

All in all, there is no Las Vegas in the online world of gambling. Despite the emergence of popular hubs, there is just no single web site that could rise above others in a niche. The market is also highly unstable, with new sites springing up every week and old ones closing almost as often.

Whereas in the offline world your choice of locale for gambling activities is often a given, the online world presents you with a multitude of choices no single player can hope to thoroughly analyze. The most popular way is to try around until you find a site to your liking. There is surely a favorite for everyone among the many alternatives.

One way to quickly find out about poker web sites is to read poker room reviews. That way you get to know the pros and cons of many poker rooms without having to go through the trouble of finding about them for yourself.
